Ingredient Substitutes

  • Tamarind → Kokum

Ingredients

  • 400g prawns, cleaned
  • 1 cup grated coconut
  • 5 dried red chilies
  • 1 tbsp tamarind pulp
  • 5 garlic cloves
  • 1 small onion, chopped
  • 1/2 tsp turmeric
  • 2 tbsp oil
  • Salt to taste
  • 1.5 cups water

Instructions

  1. Clean and devein prawns.
  2. Grind coconut, chilies, garlic, turmeric, and tamarind to a smooth paste.
  3. Heat oil and sauté onions until soft.
  4. Add ground paste and cook until aromatic.
  5. Add water and simmer.
  6. Add prawns and cook 5–7 mins until done.

Do not overcook prawns | Use fresh coconut for best flavor | Kokum can replace tamarind | Rest curry 5 mins before serving
